Refúgio 343 was created in response to what is today the greatest migration challenge in recent history. We are a humanitarian organization dedicated to the socioeconomic reintegration of refugees and migrants. We work with the axes of social development and humanitarian aid through the pillars of host e education.
Reception is the highest point of our work.through internalization, planned displacement strategy, we integrate families throughout the Brazilian territory in a systematic way, activating people and companies in a clear reception system. We monitor families at their final destinations to ensure they achieve their fundamental rights, employment, health and education, and thus independence in the short term.
By Shelter School we offer access to one of the dhuman rights most important: education. The school provides refugees and migrants with the tools to restart their lives in Brazil with more confidence and self-esteem. We offer a common curriculum of classroom Portuguese and intercultural education, in addition to professional training courses. We believe that education is the most effective way to social transformation and the key to various citizenship processes and development, both personal and professional.
“In October 2018, I started having frequent dreams about a girl who seemed strange to me, until one day I recognized her in a news report that talked about the migration crisis in Venezuela. At that moment, I felt I had to do something to help.”
The experience lived by one of our founders inspired the action of a group already involved in a series of social projects. The first dream was to take a plane to Roraima and return with a refugee family. This dream grew, we became a Humanitarian Organization, we have already rescued hundreds of families, and this was just the beginning of a life journey.
We began to daydream, and dreaming became a part of doing. We believe in the power of unity, charity and determination. We are, first and foremost, a refuge for ourselves, a platform that aims to promote healing from the inside out. We found in the culture of this organization the opportunity to evolve, to become better people and professionals, while developing our humanitarian work.
We live in a new era, we are a family!
More than 1% of humanity is displaced. There are more than 100 million people who have had to leave their origins behind, a number that has doubled in the last decade. Venezuelans are now the second largest displaced population group in the world. More than 7,1 millions of people, 20% of the population, have already migrated from the country to escape economic insecurity, hunger, violence, lack of medicines and essential services.
Considered the largest humanitarian crisis in Latin America, we are feeling the direct impact in Brazil. The country has already regularized 414 thousand Venezuelans, making it the 5th country that welcomes the most. To support the migratory flow, there are 5 shelters in Boa Vista and 2 in Pacaraima, on the border with Venezuela, housing approximately 9 thousand people together.
Despite all efforts, there are around 2 mil refugees and migrants living without infrastructure and access to basic services in spontaneous occupations e in the streets from Roraima.
We are committed to the 2030 Agenda. Refúgio 343's activities cover 10 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN. We believe that, as in the first and second sectors, third sector organizations also need to be committed to more efficient, transparent and responsible activities, both in the environmental and social spheres.
Therefore, Refúgio 343 is also a signatory of the UN Global Compact, committed to following the 10 principles universal in the areas of Human Rights, Labor, Environment and Anti-Corruption and actions that contribute to facing society's challenges.
